“How the China-led Global South Crushed Trump’s US Capitalist Restoration” – with Vijay Prashad

From Trump’s tariffs, to China’s reaction and the failure of the reverse Kissinger attempt to sabotage the alliance between Russia and China, Vijay Prashad draws a picture of the evolution of the anti-imperialist struggle in the last months. The picture that emerges is one of a decadent phase of western imperialism, a model in which the US seem to have neither the resources, nor the will to modify the extractivist base of their domination. BRICS expansion signals a huge opportunity for the global South and for the working classes of the world: never before an emerging hegemon was governed by a leadership that puts the interest of the people in front of one of its financial oligarchies. Equally, as Prashad puts it brilliantly, we cannot delude ourselves thinking that real change will happen with a magic wand: the realisation of a multipolar world that is also a socialist world will come through global class struggle that helps the BRICS carrying on its evolution from a simple anti-imperialist coalition to one that could open up a new phase of international relations based on cooperation, mutual respect and human rights, including the social ones, for all people of the world, and not only for a shrinking and decadent élite.
